This season, if you are lucky enough to be in an area that sells mandarin oranges…get yourself some mandarin oranges. Yes, the fruit is delicious, but do NOT throw away the rind. Save it and dried it. Or candied it if that’s your thing. Honestly, the peel is more important to me than the fruit.
These peels are recognized for their medicinal property in Chinese and Ayurveda medicine. It reduces and dissolves mucous, helps with digestive issues, reduces fever, detoxes the organs, etc.
If you don’t give a lick about herbal remedies, mandarin orange peels are a great cooking spice. Dry it and grate it up in a meat rub. Drop it in your rice, congee, or teriyaki sauce.
